Update

Just a quick update today. I've not managed that much recently as one of our cats suffered a serious leg injury and lost his leg as the damage was too extensive to repair.

Firstly I've completed the rebasing of the first batch of Anglo-Zulu War figures. This means I now have a total of 2 "Brigades" of troops for Black Powder so should hopefully be able to try the rules out soon. The British "Brigade" is a bit of a mismatch of units consisting of 1 company of Natal Native Contingent, 1 company of British Regulars and 1 detachment of mounted volunteers (the Natal Carbineers). I'm not 100% sure how this would fare on the table top. The Zulu "Brigade" on the other hand is pretty uniform having 4 warrior bases and 1 of skirmishers. Overall I'm pleased with the way they've come out.

I've also found a very good painting guide on the net for my Adler Napoleonic French (see here for the guide). I painted up a batch of 8 figures as a test and it was quite easy following all the steps. I'm now confident I can attempt the rest of the Division....

  1. These look really good. The link is excellent too, I'll have to give his method a try. Top notch - no reason now not to dust out the old castings and have a fantastic 6mm Nap army or two. Congratulations!!

    1. Thanks Andy. I wish I'd had that guide a few years back when I brought the Division pack as its given me the confidence that I can paint the uniforms in a way that looks good in 6mm. Got to do some thinking about basing but the current plan is to represent each company by 4 figures giving a French battalion 24 figures plus 4 figures forming a command group that will sit between the middle two companies. I have some mounted battalion officers to add as well. I'll most probably keep with the basing concepts I've used for the Zulu war a) to reduce the number of bases and b) I've got loads of them now.

I'm now planning to use what I have to represent the French 3rd Division at Salamanca in 1812 (7 line and 2 Light battalions plus some yet to be identified artillery) and will be adding a British Division to face them (probably the 6th from the same battle). I've done another 8 figures today so hopefully will soon have some completed units to show off.

Did the wargames weekend go okay? Sorry I couldn't make it down, am sitting here typing this with the injured cat asleep beside me.

      Cheers

  2. Hi Richard

Pics of the Leipzig game on my blog - it was a great weekend, could have done with some help as for the best part of a day I was commanding the entire French force - quite a lot to do!!

Really looking forward to seeing how your Napoleonics develop. Your Nap regts should finish up about the same size as my ACW regiments.

Hope the cat can get used to the loss of the leg. Apparently they can learn to live with the loss pretty well given time.

    Cheers

    1. Hi Andy,

Will have a look through all the pictures before I start work today.

I think my battalions will be about the same size as your ACW regiments, my French will have 29 and the British 25. Guns will probably be in singles plus a separate limber, cavalry will be in squadrons or perhaps a pair of squadrons (needs more thought).

The cats already moving about quite well and can even run, in fact running looks normal its when he slows down that it's noticeable.

      Cheers

      Richard
